Provided here are answers to the most commonly asked questions about LARA. If you don't find an answer to your question, please email creightonsupport@ciscare.com. We'll answer your question just as quickly as possible. General Questions What is LARA? LARA (Live Anywhere Record Access) is a system first developed at Creighton University in the Department of Pathology that connects wireless enabled handheld devices to Creighton University Medical Center's patient information systems. LARA gives Creighton doctors easy access to their patients' information anywhere in the hospital without delays. Can I access outpatient data with LARA? No. LARA connects handheld devices to the Creighton University Medical Center's inpatient information system. The system does not include lab results for outpatient encounters, so outpatient lab results are not available in LARA. Getting access to LARA How can I get LARA? LARA is available for free to any physician at Creighton University. Installation and support for LARA is provided by Ciscare. If you already have a supported device, send an email to creightonsupport@ciscare.com or call 888-400-5272 x702 to have it setup for use with LARA. If your device is not listed among currently supported devices, you can still contact Ciscare and to find out if LARA will work with your device. The process of enabling a device to use LARA can take up to 5 business days, but is usually completed in less than 48 hours. How much does it cost to use LARA? LARA is available FREE OF CHARGE for all physicians at the Creighton University Medical Center. This includes any physician with privileges at the hospital. To use LARA, you will need to have a compatible handheld device. If you do not already have one, expect to spend between $200 and $300 for a device. What handheld device is recommended if I am buying one to use with LARA? Ciscare does not currently recommend any one specific device. The choice of which device you use is somewhat personal and depends, among other factors, on how else you are going to use the device. Will my existing PDA work with LARA? LARA requires a handheld device with 802.11b (Wi-Fi) wireless capability. This includes nearly all of the currently sold handheld devices. If your device supports Wi-Fi, it will probably work with LARA. Check the list of supported devices then email us to get started using LARA. Can I use LARA from home or with my combined PDA-phone? Not at this time. While Creighton University is looking into how the functionality of LARA can be extended beyond the walls of the Creighton University Medical Center, LARA currently requires that the handheld device be connected directly to the hospital's wireless network. Using LARA What login and password should I use? LARA uses the same login information as the hospital's HBOC Care Manager system. Every staff physician, resident and medical student at Creighton University Medical Center should have a Care Manager login. If you have forgotten your Care Manager login or password, contact the hospital help desk at 4825 for assistance. How do I setup a patient list? LARA uses your assigned patients from Care Manager to determine which patients you are following. You can assign patients to yourself in Care Manager by logging in and then, from the "Patient" selection window using the "Assign" menu in the upper left to tell the computer that you are following any patient.
